A significant outreach program to industry has been developed in the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, with the aim of integrating industrial experience and promoting external relations with alumni and others who wish to contribute their experience and expertise to engineering education. These contributions include interacting with staff in the School and appropriate people in industry for people in industry to contribute seminars, workshops, and case studies that reflect current and future situation, challenges and directions in chemical and biomolecular engineering. Giving appropriate directions regarding visits, field trips and industrial experience, including week in industry placements, are also core directions for the program, which is giving appropriate direction to students regarding expectations and approaches to vacation experience and work placements and making our premier programs, such as MIPPS (Major Industrial Project Placement Scheme), readily acceptable to industry. The significant impact and success of the program with both staff and students will be discussed. Future directions for the interactions will also be outlined, including further developing leadership attributes in student learning through industrial guidance and greater involvement from recent graduates in case study development and implementation.
