SPICE and the CMM : is the CMM compatible with ISO / IEC 15504 ?

The newly approved international standard for Software Process Assessment, ISO/IEC 15504, provides a mechanism for interchange of results of assessments based upon different process models, through the definition of a reference model for software processes and process capability. It is intended that there should be a ready migration path for existing methods and models. In this context, the Software Capability Maturity Model, the best known and most widely adopted of current models, has been examined to identify barriers to achievement of compatibility with the new standard. A number of significant areas of difficulty have been identified, and some possible mechanisms for resolution are proposed.
