A two-way nesting procedure for the WAM model: Application to the Spanish Coast

The performance of a standard one-way nesting procedure for a regional application of a third wave model is investigated. It is found that this nesting procedure is not applicable when the resolution has to be enhanced drastically, unless intermediate grids are placed between the coarse and the fine grids. This solution, in turn, requires an excess of computing resources. A two-way nesting procedure is developed and implemented in the model. Advantages and disadvantages of both systems are discussed. The model output is compared with observed data and the results are shown.
