End-shorted printed monopole antenna EM compatible with nearby metal plate for handheld application

A novel antenna design for placing in the middle of the edge of the PCB with EM compatibility has been proposed. The proposed design has a planar configuration and can be easily fabricated at low cost on the system substrate by shorting the end of the resonant strip, a special common mode mechanism can be formed to provide the EMC mechanism with nearby metal devices. Additionally, a small area 2 x 16.5 mm2 on PCB was also obtained. That's, the proposed design placed in the middle of the edge of the ground plane can not only immune EM interference to nearby metal device like connectors, battery, keypad and LCD display but also place on the non-corner of the ground plane. Moreover, the proposed can also be applied into the various mobile devices such as handset, USB...etc. Good radiation characteristics of the proposed design have also been verified for 2.4 GHz WLAN/Bluetooth operation.
