Powered Upper Limb Prosthetic Practice in Paediatrics

Powered upper-limb prosthetic practice in paediatrics is based on the principle of family-centered care. Children have unique prosthetic needs that are best addressed by a multidisciplinary team approach. This chapter outlines: the procedures used in myoelectric fitting; the availability and nature of child sized components; the basic concepts and applicationsof myoelectric control systems for children and adolescents; socket designs and paediatric considerations; and the need for supplementary devices for sports, recreation and special activities.
