Model Predictive Controller for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Drive: Analysis of Speed controllers

This paper presents Model Predictive Controller (MPC) scheme for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) drive. The MPC is used to generate effective gating pulses to the inverter for improved performance. PMSM drive is operated in Direct torque control scheme with an inverter set up will generate more torque ripples and deteriorated the performance. The incorporation of MPC will generate suitable gating pulses with respect to the rotor position and electromagnetic torque. Further, the MPC-PMSM set up required an effective speed controller for that the PI and Fuzzy logic controller is chosen. The proposed set up operated in different operating conditions to analyze the performance and to validate the results in terms of torque ripples, total harmonic distortion of Stator winding currents and settling time for speed. The obtained results shows that the Fuzzy based MPC-PMSM set gives most reliable results in all the test conditions.
