Performance evaluation of MIMO SC-FDMA system with FDE receiver

SC-FDMA (Single carrier frequency division multiple access) has been adopted as the uplink transmission scheme in 3GPP LTE (3rd Generation Partnership Project Long Term Evolution) [1]. MIMO (Multiple-input multiple-output) SC-FDMA, which combines the advantages of spatial and frequency diversities with FDE (frequency domain equalizers), has drawn great attention recently. This paper proposes MIMO FDE receivers for MIMO SC-FDMA system including linear MIMO FDE and layered FDE receivers. Simulation Results show that IFDMA system with linear MMSE FDE receivers can achieve a much better performance than that of LFDMA system while LFDMA system with layered MMSE FDE receivers can achieve approximate or better BER performance than that of IFDMA system when the number of transmit and receive antennas is large to gain enough spatial diversity.
