Fish 'n Flag

Much interest has been directed toward understanding the biomechanics of swimming and flight, which require a large expenditure of energy. In her Perspective, [MA¼ller][1] explores intriguing new findings ([ Liao et al .][2]) that reveal how fish are able to reduce muscle activity during swimming by exploiting the vortices generated as water flows around stationary objects.
