This paper,with a comprehensive research perspective,reports an empirical study on the status quo of English reading teaching for college English majors.Data were collected through group interviews,questionnaires and classroom observation.The paper first describes the current situations of English reading teaching in terms of teachers′and students′habit,capability and effectiveness,then it analyzes the major difficulties with the subjective and objective reasons.Finally,with the guidance of"theory of semantic relation",the integrated mode of English reading teaching is structured.
