Institute for Simulation and Training

Background The Institute for Simulation and Training (IST) is an internationally recognized research institute that focuses on technology advancement in training, training systems, education, simulation, and modeling. Founded in 1983, IST is a unit of the University of Central Florida, and receives guidance from a twenty-member industrial advisory board representing international firms, and from a Center of Excellence committee comprised of representatives from the Office of the Secretary of Defense and from each of the four branches of the military. The Institute is located in the Central Florida Research Park adjacent to the UCF campus in Orlando, Florida. The Naval Training Systems Center, the Army’s Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation Command, and the Marine Liaison Ot’tice (Trainers and Simulators) are all within walking distance of IST’s offices and facilities. Additionaly, over 140 training and simulation companies maintain a presence in the immediate Orlando area, many with design and manufacturing operations.
