Cet article constitue une reponse a l'article de Steier et Rom, 2000, mettant en evidence certains problemes lors de l'utilisation des methodes bayesiennes en datation radiocarbone. Il confirme que le choix des informations prealables constitue un point cle de l'efficacite de la methode, et que celui-ci doit etre fait avec une grande precision. Neanmoins, lorsqu'elles sont utilisees judicieusement, les methodes bayesiennes permettent d'obtenir en datation radiocarbone des resultats impossibles a atteindre avec les methodes statistiques classiques.
