MASSIVE RUBBLIZATION EFFORT SHOWCASED IN ARKANSAS

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) explains its five-year rubblization and repaving project for 276 miles of concrete Interstate. Portland cement concrete sections that score 60 or higher on the International Roughness Index (IRI) are being rubblized with a resonant pavement breaker and then overlaid with Superpave asphalt mixtures. A "merge left" work zone safety campaign, night-time staged construction schedules and funding with a combination of diesel sales tax and Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds are among the features.
