PowerAmplifier Design Strategy tonull IMDasymmetry

Inthiscontribution theminimisation ofthe asymmetrybetweenlower and upper sideband intermodulation products isdiscussed, usinga Volterra series approach. From theinferred relationships new conditions tominimise IMD asymmetryareobtained and verified through thedesign ofaC-Band2ndharmonic tuned hybrid poweramplifier usingaGaN PHEMT device. The proposed approach, without linearization schemes, achieves theminimisation ofAM-PM conversion andasymmetry up to400MHz tonespacing, withaminimum32.5dBm output powerandover60% drain efficiency @ 5.5GHz.
