NIH Public Access Policy

The National Institute of Health9s proposed public access policy will create a stable and permanent archive of peer-reviewed, NIH-funded research publications. This archive, described in the Policy Forum by Elias Zerhouni, will enhance NIH9s ability to manage its research portfolio and to provide the public with access to published findings. It will also augment the ability of scientists to exchange information more effectively, while preserving the critical role of journals and publishers in peer review, editing, and scientific quality control.
