Optical sensing by multiple-slot waveguide microring resonators

This paper presents microing resonator sensor based on a quintuple-slot waveguide. We show that such microring resonator sensor can present a high sensitivity. To improve the bending efficiency of such sensor, an asymmetric structure is considered for the ring waveguide which reduces the sensitivity. The effect of different materials for top cladding and for highindex strips on the waveguide sensitivity is investigated. The sensing and bending characteristics are investigated through the use of a combined effective-index method/modified transfermatrix method.
