A fresh approach to cyclic manufacturing

Abstract A job shop usually deals with the manufacture of a wide variety of products. Often, it adopts the production of several items in a common cycle time. A certain portion of the cycle time is idle. In the literature, inadequate attention has been given to the non-productive time during a cycle. In this paper, an approach of reducing the production rate of the product is proposed. Cost reduction as a result of reducing the production rate is demonstrated.
