The Impact of Different Arrival Patterns on Queuing Systems when Customers are Impatient

A simulation analysis of a multi-product monopoly based on the M/M/1/B queuing system enables a full range of market performance measures to be estimated. When the queuing formulation is modified to allow for a Weibull rather than Exponential inter-arrival time pattern, corresponding results are (selectively) found not to differ significantly from those obtained previously. In particular, customers' expected waiting time is virtually unchanged. However, because of the lower incidence of short inter-arrival times with the Weibull, idle time is reduced and consequently, expected effective demand, increased - with positive implications for the monopolist's future profitability.
