Power Dividers/Combiners for 1.5T MRI Solid State Power Amplifier

This paper presents an exhaustive study and design of various power combining/dividing technologies used in Solid State Power Amplifier (SSPA) system incorporated for generating high power RF for a 1.5T Magnetic Resonance (MR) system. The paper aims to provide a comparative analysis on the existing power division/combining techniques. The paper highlights on fabrication of high power 4:1 wilkinson combiner incorporating a novel assembly of co-axial cable. Peak output power of 5kW, return loss −61.64dB, isolation loss −53.02dB and the insertion loss was found to be 0.ldB. The paper finally concludes with the advantages and disadvantages of each approach.
