Smartphone Sensor vs Photogrammetry for Gait Analysis

Research has shown a remarkable growth in the use of smartphone and apps in the human movements. Accelerometer sensor within smartphone can be used to detect human movements and gait characteristics. The objective of current study is to evaluate the accelerometer data by comparing the captured data with camera image-based photogrammetric data. The smartphone has been attached on the lower lamp of the subjects. At the same time, four cameras will be used to capture images for the lower lamp movements. Then, compare the captured data from smartphone sensors and cameras. Five healthy subjects with no disability were recruited to walked two steps with ten replicated having smartphone attached in the right leg. The results were satisfactory with (0.935) correlation coefficient. Applications and limitations of this study are also discussed.
