Dielectric response of cable accessories and its influence on cable diagnostics

In this paper, dielectric measurements performed on unaged, field-aged and artificially damaged cable joints are reported. All cable joints, but the unaged, were characterized with respect to their discharge inception and extinction voltages. Various types of unaged indoor and outdoor cable terminations were also analysed. Both time domain (TDS) and frequency domain dielectric spectroscopy (FDS) were performed at various voltage levels up to 1.5U/sub 0/.
