Age and Sex Differences in the Responses of Adolescents to the Hand Test

The Hand Test of E. E. Wagner was administered to 163 adolescents attending a rural midwest high school. Subjects were placed into four age groups based on their chronological ages. There was an age difference for the variable Exhibition; however, post hoc analyses indicated that none of the age groups were significantly different from one another. Boys gave more Exhibition and Crippled responses, and interactions of age × sex in the absence of significant main effects were obtained for Direction, Tension and Environmental responses. Implications of the results are discussed.
