A quantitative traffic analysis of distributed WWW caching systems

WWWキャッシュシステムは,インターネット上の 通信を局所化および削減し,サービス遅延を減少する と考えられている.近年,ICP (Internet Cache Protocol) を用いた分散型キャッシュシステムが広く用いられてい るが,このシステムでは ICPによる問い合わせがイン ターネット上に多数送信される.従って,この ICPの 問い合わせによるトラヒック量を上回るトラヒック削 減効果が達成されなければ,逆にインターネット上の トラヒックを増加させることになる.本論文では,こ の ICPを用いたWWW分散型キャッシュシステムのト ラヒックを詳細に分析することで,システムの性能評 価を行なう.まず,局所的観点から境界ルータを通過 するパケット数に焦点を当てて,ICPがいかにこのパ ケット数を増加させるかを分析する.次に,広域的な 観点から,ホップ数を考慮した評価指標を定義し,広 域ネットワーク上におけるトラヒック削減効果につい て考察する.これらの分析により,ICPによる分散型 キャッシュシステムは,多くの場合,効果をあげるこ とが困難であることを明らかにする.
