A conglomerate technique for finger print recognition using phone camera captured images

Fingerprints consists of unique features and predominantly used for individual authentication. Numerous procedures have been proposed for fingerprint recognition. However, the recognition performance is exceptionally varying according to the quality of images. The high accessibility of portable image capturing devices such as smartphone cameras made easy capturing of high-resolution images. In this paper, a conglomerative technique using minutiae extraction and core point detection (CP) are discussed for fingerprint recognition. The fingerprint region of the image is obtained by utilizing a skin-color based technique. Pre-processing is done in the form of image enhancement and binarization to enhance the quality of the fingerprint. The performances of fingerprint recognition using proposed technique are evaluated false acceptance rate, and false rejection rate and results are also compared with minutiae extraction algorithm. The results suggested that conglomerate approach works superior in most of the cases.
