TETHERED SATELLITE SYSTEM MODELS FOR USE IN HARDWARE-IN-THE-LOOP SIMULATIONS

A Hardware-In-the-Loop simulation of an analogue controller for a tethered satellite system is demonstrated. The purpose is to prove the effective application of a tethered system's dynamic model to real-time simulations that incorporate a controller implemented in hardware. A dSPACE board is used to interface the dynamic model, implemented using MATLAB and SIMULINK, to a controller fabricated using off-the-shelf components. Application of an optimal LQR control scheme produces similar results in the Hardware-In-the-Loop simulation and the computer-based model simulation.
