Comparison of techniques for plane-wave decomposition to VCS Acoustic Data

Dip filter has been widely used for the plane-wave decomposition for exploration seismic data processing. There are many methods of dip filtering studied so far, and each technique has its own characteristic advantages and disadvantages. It is important to examine the methods in consideration of the exploration purpose and environment. In this study, the five kinds of dip filter methods the F-K filter, the Seeman and Horowicz(1983)’s method, theSVD, the Hilbert transform method (Mikada, 1990) and the tau-p filter were applied to the field data of VCS(Vertical Cable Seismic). The result was compared to investigate the effectiveness of the extraction of the target wave field. After the comparison, we observed the Hilbert transform method is effective methods in the planewave decomposition for the VCS data.
