Analysis of focal and non-focal EEG signals using bivariate empirical mode decomposition

In this paper, a new method based on bivariate empirical mode decomposition (BEMD) for analysis of focal and non-focal EEG signals is proposed. Two dynamics are used to measure x and y pairs of EEG signals simultaneously. The bivariate EMD method decomposes the x and y pairs of EEG signal into a set of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs). The area is computed from IMFs plot of x and y pairs. This feature is used to discriminate focal and non-focal EEG signals. The area measurement of IMFs provides better discrimination performance. The class discriminating ability of the feature is evaluated by using statistical test.
