Dark recovery of ERP in isolated octopus retina.

The regenerative process of rhodopsin in the isolated octopus retina was studied based on observations on waveform changes of the ERP. The amplitude of the ERP of rhodopsin was decreased by intense pale yellow light and was restored during the period of dark adaptation. The dark recovery was not notable when blue light was used in place of yellow light. It was suggested that the rhodopsin regenerates in darkness from an intermediate substance which is photoconverted from acid metarhodopsin.
