Integrated adaptive beamforming antennas for wireless communications

This paper introduces two adaptive beamforming systems based on different beamforming concepts. We first present a simple digital beamforming system, for use at carrier frequencies in C-band for high capacity WLANs. Secondly, we discuss a hybrid analog-digital beamforming system whose specific aim is to relieve the speed limit imposed by the digital components in the digital beamformer. The structures and features of the two beamforming systems, and their measurement results, are summarized.
