Relationship between the Transmission Loss and the Impact‐Noise Isolation of Floor Structures

Transmission loss and impact noise are two important aspects of the properties of floors. With the application of the principle of reciprocity, a relation is derived for floors with hard surfaces that makes it possible to estimate the impact noise from transmission loss or vice versa. If both are known, some insight can be gained on the existence of leakage paths and flanking by side walls, or the efficiency of floor‐surfacing materials.
