Filtering Medical Images with a New Class of Digital Filters.

Digital filtering is an important technique in numerous medical applications. In the onedimensional domain, it is used on time series data such as electrocardiogram and electroencephalogram output. In the two-dimensional domain, digital filtering is used in all imaging modalities, including CT, MRI, and nuclear medicine scans, as well as computer analysis of x-rays. In this article, a new class of digital filters based on an orthogonal function developed by Cohen is presented. The resulting filters are applicable in both one and two dimensions. Comparisons are presented with traditional filtering techniques, and sample images are shown. ImagesFigure 3Figure 4
