Silica Nanotubes by Templated Thermolysis of Silicon Tetraacetate

Silica nanotubes and silica nanohelices were obtained by thermolysis of silicon tetraacetate in nanoporous alumina in the presence of amphiphilic block copolymer soft templates. Silica preferentially forms at pore walls and at internal BCP domain boundaries to avoid the entropic penalty associated with silica formation within the polar BCP domains.
