Measures of Interviewer Bias and Variance

Two studies of interviewer bias and variance are reported. One is a controlled experiment which yielded estimates of interviewer variability. The other, in which a controlled experiment was not feasible, yielded indications of a relationship between “success” in collecting income data and interviewer characteristics and attitudes.
