A heat pipe employing metallic sodium has been fabricated. The performance test of the heat pipe has been accomplished in the test furnace with 700~1500W of heat input, which is lower calculated heat transport limitation of the heat pipe. The condenser zone is exposed in the ambient air. It is found that the internal boiling heat transfer coefficient increases rapidly when the heat input exceeds 1㎾. At this point, the value of internal thermal resistance turns out to be less than 0.1 ℃/W. Consequently, high-temperature sodium heat pipe seems to be excellent, but the most difficult task in the fabrication process is to eliminate the non-condensible gas from the heat pipe.
