ISSUES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY IN THE ADVENT OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY: A TECHNOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE

The paper presents a review of the published literature on the interrelated themes surrounding the application of IT (Information Technology) and its contribution towards integrating and improving the design and construction activities in CI (Construction Industry) of the UK (United Kingdom). The review also explores themes about the reasons of fragmentation of the construction industry and the opportunities for defragmentation. This study also identifies the potential of IT’s contribution in improving the design and construction processes, with particular reference to assess its potential for similar usage in Pakistan. The literature studied covers a number of disciplines related to this study i.e. from theorists in history, business studies, information technology, construction industry, economics, town and country planning and architecture, which are discussed in a systematic analysis of cross-disciplinary themes.
