Electron Microscopy of Golgi Preparations for the Study of Neuronal Relations

During the planning of this book the author was requested to prepare an account of his experiences (1965) with the combined use of Golgi impregnation and electron microscopy in neuroanatomical studies by the method of experimentally induced Wallerian degeneration. At the present time, however, it is no less useful to evaluate the application of a combined Golgi-and-EM procedure to the study of interneuronal connections in normal material. Therefore, and also because both approaches involve the same technical procedures, they will both be dealt with. The articles by Stell (1965 a, b; 1967) and by the present author (1965) will form the main basis for the following account, for no further reports on this subject appear to have been published.
