Successive user insertion for long-term adaptive beams with SDMA using short-term CQI

This paper introduces a novel simple, low-complexity heuristic approach of user selection for simultaneous transmission to several users in the downlink and design of the corresponding antenna weights for adaptive beamforming with mutual interference suppression. This selection is done successively. At the base station long-term channel state information is required in addition to a short-term scalar scheduling priority information, e.g. based on channel quality or a proportional fairness score. Multi-link simulation results are given based on the parameters of the European research project WINNER. Index Terms – User selection, SDMA, eigenbeamforming, MIMO, OFDM, downlink
