Image restoration using equivalent imaging optics

Abstract We propose a new image processing method which enables the use of a single lens instead of an automatic focusing system in the electronic still camera. The simulated annealing algorithm is applied to restoration of space-variant image blur, and an electroptic hybrid processor with the optics equivalent to the imaging system is also proposed for a hardware implementation of simulated annealing. Numerical estimations of the imaging parameters are not required, and highly parallel processing is possible. We also describe a method capable of gray-level data with low dynamic-range devices. Results from experiments and a computer simulation are presented.
