The Application of Versatile Power Electronic Inverters in Lab-Scale Microgrids

Teaching courses on and doing research in the application of distributed generation in general and microgrids in particular requires a flexible experimentation environment. The core hereof is a versatile 4-wire power electronics inverter allowing to implement grid-connected front-ends of small generators and different types of loads as well as power conditioning devices in the same lab environment. The philosophy behind the rapid-prototyping inverter is explained and examples from teaching as well as research practice are given.
