Effects of AC power line configuration and current unbalance on electromagnetic fields

Analysis and computation of electromagnetic fields generated by transmission lines are carried out. Various configurations of transmission lines are examined. Different shield wire positions are considered and the effects of unbalanced currents on electromagnetic fields are studied. The effects of regularly grounding the shield wires are also discussed. It is found that the configuration of the transmission line and the unbalance of the phase wire currents have significant influence on the electromagnetic fields during normal load conditions. Fault conditions are briefly discussed and it is shown that in this case, the shield wire position generally has a larger influence on the electromagnetic fields than the configuration of the phase wires.
