Review of Soft—Switching Technologies for High—Frequency Switched—Mode Power Conversion

Given the rising demand for increases in the switching frequency and efficiency of switched–mode power conversion, the introduction of an undergraduate/postgraduate course on Advanced Power Electronics is both timely and important, and new teaching materials must be designed. This paper presents the evolution of soft–switching technologies, as well as a discussion of operating principles, performance characteristics, experimental results, merits and limitations. The purpose of the new course is to provide the students with up–to–date and comprehensive knowledge of advanced power electronic circuits. Additionally, this paper can help the academic community in developing an intimate understanding of various soft–switching topologies.
