The seismic response reduction by using model reference adaptive control algorithm

The model reference adaptive control method is introduced into the field of structural control. The fundamental equation about adaptive control over the seismic response of the structure is derived from the adaptive control theory - the minimum control synthesis (MCS). On the basis of designing two reference models - the seismic energy reducing model and the linear quadratic regular (LQR) model, two types of adaptive controllers are devised for each model. With this method, the simulation results about the seismic reaction of a three DOF (degree of freedom) structure indicate: with the model reference adaptive control method, the seismic response of the structure can track the reference model very well; the MCS apaptive control algorism can reduce the structural seismic response evidently; and this method can be applied into structural vibration control.
