Abstract The search coil method, which has become standard in high-precision experimental eye movement recording, requires stable magnetic fields of known strength, correction for offsets and other variable characteristics of the recording electronics, calibration, and geometric interpretation of the measured coil voltages. The search coil system presented here uses a digital microprocessor to achieve these aims automatically, thereby avoiding errors and time-consuming manual adjustments.
