Adaptivity in multiple-access communications

Adaptive signal processing problems that arise in multiple-access communication applications are reviewed. In particular, adaptive filtering techniques for the mitigation of both multiple-access and narrowband interferences are considered, as well as adaptive techniques based on parameter estimation. A broad spectrum of methodologies that have been brought to bear on these problems is described, including adaptive linear filtering, neural networks, stochastic approximation, the EM algorithm, and nonlinear filtering.
