Realization of a Higher Integrated Multi-layered DP-RE-type ECF Micro-Motor

Electro-Conjugate Fluid (ECF) is a kind of dielectric fluids, which produces jet-flow by applied high DC voltage between electrodes inserted in the fluid. By applying this phenomenon of ECF to motor driving principle, micro motors with simple structure and light-weight can be realized. We call these motors ECF micro motors. In the proposed ECF micro motors, DP-RE-type ECF micro motors have disk-plate-like rotor on which electrodes are laid out radially. In this study, 4-layered DP-RE-type ECF micro motor with inner diameter φ9 mm and inner height 1.9 mm (Multi-layered DP-RE-type ECF micro motor) is designed and fabricated. Also effectiveness for building up disk-plates to improve output power is experimentally investigated. As a result, it is effective to build up disk-plates for improvement of output power. To realize more powerful multi-layered DP-RE-type ECF micro motors, 8-layered DP-RE-type ECF micro motor with inner diameter φ9 mm and inner height 1.0 mm (Highly integrated Multi-layered DP-RE-type ECF micro motor) is designed and fabricated. Then the output characteristics are experimentally examined, and maximum output power 0.62 mW is obtained with applied voltage 6 kV.
