The role of the “no compression” sonographic technique in identification and removal of an etonogestrel contraceptive implant: A case report

Typical of a contraceptive protection exceeding 99%. It widely used throughout the world, providing effective contraceptive protection for 3 years. 2 Contraceptive effect is obtained through two complementary mechanisms: ovulation is inhibited by blockage of the pre- ovulatory luteinizing hormone surge (primary mechanism) and an elevation of cervical mucus viscosity inhibits sperm penetration. 3 This case report presents a 24- year- old nulligravid woman who was referred for removal of a non- palpable implant (Nexplanon®) that was inserted 9 months prior. She initially presented to an outside clinic where at a single removal attempt was made, but it was unsuccessful. On her presentation to our center, the implant was not palpable on examination, but was visible on a radiograph of her left upper arm. Ultrasound using a 12- MHz linear array transducer demonstrated a skin- to- rod depth
