CVE 96 was a joint venture between the Departments of Psychology and Computer Science at the University of Nottingham. l-he aim of the workshop was to bring together researchers from a number of different disciplines to discuss the design and use of Collaborative Virtual Environments. With such inter-disciplinary goals in mind, suggested topics in the Call for Papers were broad, including techniques for supporting, communication and collaboration in virtual environments, metaphors for collaboration, experiences and evaluation of CVEs and CVE-based applications, systems architectures for CVEs, applications of CVEs, collaborative DIS and VRML applications, studies of social action and interaction in CVEs, and user centred development of CVEs. Notably, this call did not limit work of interest to 3D graphical environments.
