Efficiency Analysis and Benchmarking of Telecommunication Sector In India

Technological modernization is increasingly viewed as premeditated necessity in today’s era of growth and prosperity for any country. Telecommunications has entered a new age of development with advanced technology and increased competition with established players. The technological advances in the telecommunication sector are associated with an uninterrupted growth of the mobile sector. India has become one of the fastest-growing mobile markets in the world with many private operators in this field. It is important to note that service quality assessment of these service providers is a neglected issue in India. Hence, it is very necessary to benchmark these service providers. Benchmarking is a method of performance evaluation that assesses the potential efficiency improvements within organizations and sectors. By comparing the operating efficiencies of different operators with their national and international counterparts, it is possible to identify the scope for further efficiency improvements. The paper aims to address these issues.
