High Correlation in Renal Tissue Between Computed Image Analysis and Classical Morphometric Analysis

AbstractRecent morphometric analysis of histological structures has been performed with computerized image analyzers, thus supplying previously unknown infomation. However, conventional methods are still used because few research centers have investigators trained in this technique. The basic objective of this study was to compare studies on renal tissues obtained both by the conventional method and the computerized analysis. We concluded that both methods are useful, in spite of some differences found in certain parameters, such as the glomerulus diameter and the percentage of glomerular area per glomerulus. The similarity of the results of area measurements and of glomerular sclerosis is emphasized. (The J Histotechnol 19:121, 1996)
