A fair admission control scheme with counter control based on delay reservation method in multimedia network

Call admission control (CAC) is a key factor in quality of service (QoS) provisioning for multimedia service in modern network. Lots of CAC schemes aim to satisfy QoS requirement and upgrade network utilization, but they ignore the fairness principle in network. Directly and simply using these schemes, it will appear the phenomenon that the narrow band calls block the broad band calls. The common method used to resolve fair problem is resource reservation method, but it will decrease the network utilization. This paper proposes a novel fair Call Admission Control scheme with counter control based on delay reservation method. Differing from resource reservation method, the new scheme overcomes unfair problem between narrow band calls and broad band calls. Numerical results show that the new scheme effectively improves network utilization and decreases call blocking probability (CBP) especially when the network carries heavy traffic load. Simulation results also show that the average waiting time of users is much less than their approximate delay thresholds and users could receive the service in a short waiting time.
