Method and apparatus for configurating a downlink frame in a communication system

A method and an apparatus for configuration a downlink frame in a communication system are provided to improve a throughput by adjusting a size of a MAP and a size of a data burst allocation region. A base station performs a queue scheduling process to determine scheduling priority according to corresponding connections with respect to data bursts to be transmitted to a mobile station corresponding to each of service classes(402). The base station estimates a map size by predicting a map overhead necessary for the data bursts(404). The base station performs a data burst concatenation process in order to minimize the MAP overhead(406). The base station allocates the data bursts into a data burst allocation region of a DL frame(408).
